Join freenet as a remote contract API Developer & Identity Engineer to design, implement, and maintain secure identity and API solutions for one of Germany's leading telecommunications companies. Work with modern IAM technologies in a fully remote, collaborative environment.

We are looking for an experienced API Developer & Identity Engineer to join our platform security team on a remote contract basis. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining secure API gateways and identity and access management (IAM) solutions that power freenet's digital services. You'll collaborate closely with product teams to implement authentication/authorization flows using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML, while ensuring compliance with GDPR and German data privacy regulations. This is a 12-month renewable contract with the possibility of extension.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop RESTful APIs (Node.js/TypeScript or Java) with a focus on security and performance
• Implement and manage identity federation, single sign-on (SSO), and multi-factor authentication (MFA)
• Integrate with leading IAM platforms (e.g., Keycloak, Azure AD, Okta)
• Write and maintain API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger
• Perform code reviews, security audits, and vulnerability assessments
• Participate in agile ceremonies (Scrum/Kanban) and collaborate with DevOps for CI/CD pipelines

• Experience: 5+ years as an API developer, identity engineer, or similar role
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Node.js, Java, or Python
  • In-depth knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, and JWT
  • Experience with API gateways (e.g., Kong, AWS API Gateway, or NGINX)
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Working knowledge of SQL/NoSQL databases and caching (Redis)
• Tooling: Git, CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins), monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana)
• Languages: Fluent in English (German is a strong plus)
• Soft Skills: Problem-solving attitude, team collaboration, and ability to work independently in a remote setup
