Job Summary
As Chief Production Geologist, you will lead and coordinate geological activities to optimize ore extraction and grade control at the Highland Valley Copper operation. You will oversee a team of geologists and technicians, ensuring safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible production geology practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of production geologists and field technicians, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Grade Control: Supervise grade control programs including blast hole sampling, ore delineation, and real-time grade tracking to support mill feed quality.
- Orebody Modeling: Work with mine planning engineers to update short- and medium-term geological models, ensuring accurate resource and reserve estimations.
- Data Management: Oversee data collection, validation, and reporting using specialized geological software and databases.
- Compliance: Ensure all production geology activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Optimization: Identify opportunities to improve reconciliation between planned and actual production, reducing dilution and ore loss.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is an asset.
- Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in open-pit production geology, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Certification: Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) designation in British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain within one year.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of mining software (e.g., Surpac, Datamine, Vulcan), ore control systems, and geostatistics. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Work Environment: Willingness to work on-site in a remote location, with occasional travel.
