Join smalt as a Forward Deployed Engineer to design and implement tailored solutions for key enterprise clients, working directly at the intersection of product and customer success.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer at smalt, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between our core product and real-world customer needs. You'll work directly with clients to understand their unique requirements, design custom solutions, and deploy them in production environments. Your technical expertise and customer-facing skills will drive the adoption of our platform and ensure seamless integration into existing workflows. This role requires a mix of software engineering, problem-solving, and business acumen, as you will often be the first point of contact for technical challenges.

Key responsibilities include:

• Collaborating with customers to define project scopes and technical architectures
• Developing and deploying custom integrations, APIs, and data pipelines
• Troubleshooting production issues and providing hands-on support during deployments
• Feeding customer insights back to the product team to influence roadmap decisions
• Contributing to internal tools and automation to streamline deployment processes
• Traveling to customer sites (when safe and necessary) to ensure successful implementations

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 3+ years of software engineering experience, with proficiency in at least one of Python, Go, or Java
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English (German is a plus)
• Willingness to travel up to 25% (post-pandemic) to customer sites globally
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies and version control (Git)
