We are seeking a visionary and technically adept Principal Engineer, Software to join WM's engineering organization. In this role, you will drive the architecture, design, and implementation of cutting-edge software solutions that power our waste management and environmental services operations. You will lead cross-functional teams, set technical direction, and mentor engineers to deliver scalable, high-performance systems that align with our sustainability and digital transformation goals. As a key technical leader, you will collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and operations teams to solve complex challenges and innovate in areas such as IoT, route optimization, recycling analytics, and customer platforms. • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a principal or architect-level role
• Proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems (microservices, event-driven architectures)
• Deep expertise in modern programming languages (Java, Python, Go) and frameworks (Spring, Kubernetes, serverless)
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of data engineering, real-time processing, and database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, streaming)
• Excellent leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
• Ability to drive technical decision-making and foster a culture of innovation and collaboration
